Say yes to Trees!

Being curious, I was doing a little digging about how many trees there were left on our little planet when I stumbled across this gem! Its amazing this!

How many trees per person are there(currently) ?
Evergreen State College ecology professor, Nalini Nadkarni has been kind enough to help us with the following math. " It's a cool question, and easy to calculate. ........ because of NASA, we can calculate roughly how many trees we have on Earth......In 2005, there were 400,246,300,201 (more or less) trees on our globe.......... Nadkarni looked up the world's human population as of Dec. 31 and found that on that day, we numbered 6,456,789,877 (again, very more or less). Punching the figures into her calculator, she figured that the world supports 61 trees per person."

Hurrah! That does seem like an awful lot of trees per person! But then..

"This got Nadkarni wondering: How much of our 61-tree allotment does an American use in a lifetime? All of it? Some of it? More than 61? She didn't know. So she asked her graduate students to make a list of tree-based products — and they came up with a list so long, it almost never stops...."baseball bats, barrels, books, blocks, benches, crutches, coffee filters, guitars, grocery bags, pencils, pine oil, beds, billboards, buttons, candy wrappers, buttons, chewing gum...."

Well, as Nadkarni later points out, trees, unlike petrol, are a fantastically renewable source! So fret not! Its never too late to pitch in and help regrow this very valuable life form! Its time to SAY YES TO TREES!

Say Yes to Trees
Its time we put our hands and heads together to help nature repair the damage we've done! Pick a shovel & start a-planting today! One or two? Its not very hard to do!

Hi Julia, that's really nice of you! :) It would be really fantastic if all of us would be able to do so too.

A fabulous and very interest post :D My mother's birthday is right before Mother's day so I always get her some sort of "double something" gift. This year I got her two trees for her yard. Then I just read your post and thought... "how clever of me" lol just kidding.... I actually thought how awesome that we got a head start. :D Only 59 more to go! I think I might try to plant those 59 sometime between now and my last days. Thanks for the info and the eye candy. I love your design... as always.
